Last Post of 2010

As I drink my sparkling red grape juice and wait for 2011 to come, I have some final things to say! First off I know I keep saying this, but I never believed this blog would ever have become what it has back in April when I started! I would like to thank all my fellow bloggers for helping me get started and being there when I needed help. I would also like to thank the publishers, publicists and authors who have been so kind to me this year. To all my followers all 275 of you bless!! You put up with my crazy self and somehow enjoy it! Kudos to you all. There is way to many people I need to thank to name names, but if you are reading this you probably should be thanked!

New Years Blogger Resolutions:
  1. Become More Organized! In every way possible I want to improve!!
  2. I want to learn some HTML Code.
  3. Read more books! My number can't be tracked from last year because i only started keeping track in April. I would like to read way more than that number though!
  4. New Blog Design.
  5. More creativity! I want to start more memes and features!
This is my last post of the year and as I hit  "publish post" I don't think this post fully covers everything I want to say, but I tried! See you all in the New Year!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Dash & Lily's Book of Dares by: Rachel Cohn and David Levithan (Review)

Title: Dash & Lily’s Book of Dares
Author: Rachel Cohn & David Levithan
Publisher: Knopf
Number of Pages: 272
Date of Release: October 26, 2010
Synopsis From Back Cover:

“I’ve left some clues for you.
If you want them, turn the page.
If you don’t, put the book back on the shelf, please.”

So begins the latest whirlwind romance from the New York Times bestselling authors of Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist. Lily has left a red notebook full of challenges on a favorite bookstore shelf, waiting for just the right guy to come along and accept its dares. But is Dash that right guy? Or are Dash and Lily only destined to trade dares, dreams, and desires in the notebook they pass back and forth at locations across New York? Could their in-person selves possibly connect as well as their notebook versions? Or will they be a comic mismatch of disastrous proportions?

Rachel Cohn and David Levithan have written a love story that will have readers perusing bookstore shelves, looking and longing for a love (and a red notebook) of their own.

Review: This was my first time in a long time diving back into realistic fiction…. I LOVED IT! I mean I really, really liked it to infinity!! Cohn and Levithan are beyond genius! The way they wrote it was really cool too! Cohn had Lily’s perspective and Levithan had had Dash’s perspective!  They e-mailed back and forth and voila this novel came to be.

I loved Lily from the beginning. She loves books and would rather be with them than people. Sounds like someone I know….. Anyways she has never ever done anything out of her shell and with this notebook she starts to come out of her shell and do “dangerous” things. So throughout this novel this notebook pushes her out of her comfort zone and she grows as a person. Dash, loves words. He also is an avid reader! Dash isn’t afraid of who he is and will change for no one. He is who he is and I respect that a lot. These characters had so much depth that I was intrigued from the beginning. Also the minor characters were also highly developed! Which is rarely seen and I was screaming for joy at!

Overall the idea of passing a notebook back and forth between two people is a fantastic idea. It good be a terrible book if written wrong though, but it wasn’t! So it was amazing! There was so much witty dialogue that I laughed out loud looking like a fool the whole time while reading this book. Also the writing in general in this book was just so good that I couldn’t put it down.

Dash&Lily is one of those books you will not want to miss out on so go pick it up! It is richly written and has something everyone will love. It is so not like other books out there so you will not get bored. Also I think this book is going to be sold out at your store so run and get it or order it. It is that good my friends. I need more from this dynamic duo!

I am not afraid of my quirky personality and self! I am who I am and that is why you guys follow me. I love each and every one of you!

BlackBird Vol 5& Vol. 6 by: Kanoko Sakurakoji (Mini Review)

Okay this is just a quick diddy about a series of manga that I love! I feel making two reviews for this book would not be very good, since they are kinda short compared to other books! If you have never read manga before you have to! The stereotypes of it are awful and not true! So listen to what I have to say about these two novels!

Okay so the first one was AMAZING!! The graphics were on point as usual with Kanoko and the story never took me a way I thought it would which I loved. Misao took charge of her dangerous life and tried not to relinquish all control of her life to Kyo. Kyo is just as dark and brooding as ever, but his inner soft side started to come out which I loved. All in all I was glad I had the 6th book next to me to read, since it was left at a critical moment.

The 6th volume of BlackBird kept me going from the first panel! Misao and Kyo travel to kyo's home village and Misao has a difficult choice to make! Overall the trip was a good experience and Misao and kyo's relationship grows for the better. When they get back Misao is worried she will let everyone down with the choices about her life she has to make and the powers that threaten her life. This volume ended with me wanting more and more and now I need BlackBird 7!!

NightShade by: Andrea Cremer (Review)

Title: NightShade
Author: Andrea Cremer
Publisher: Philomel
Number of Pages: 454
Date of Release: October 19, 2010
Synopsis From Jacket Flap:
Calla Tor has always known her destiny: After graduating from the Mountain School, she'll be the mate of sexy alpha wolf Ren Laroche and fight with him, side by side, ruling their pack and guarding sacred sites for the Keepers. But when she violates her masters' laws by saving a beautiful human boy out for a hike, Calla begins to question her fate, her existence, and the very essence of the world she has known. By following her heart, she might lose everything— including her own life. Is forbidden love worth the ultimate sacrifice?
Review: This quite possibly could be one of the best books I have ever read! It did not disappoint one bit! I don’t know if I can do this review justice, because I am not sure how to say what I want to say about this book. So please bare with me.
First off the cover is so pretty! It is shiny raised and striking! The inside of it is also sparkly. The hardcover part is purple with silver righting. The pages are torn and look worn which is so cool! That is the first reason you should read this book! That is right, I am a cover snob!
The plot is amazing I didn’t know what was going to happen at each turn. I mean I thought I did, but I didn’t. Which is brilliant for I usually can predict everything. Also the concept of this book really may have been done before but not as well as Andrea has written it. The flow of this book is genius and I am in awe of Andrea’s writing!
Calla was a wonderful protagonist. She was strong and smart. I found I wanted to be there for her and help her out. I think Calla and I would have been great friends. Shay is a tossup for me. I love him yes I do! I mean what is hotter than a guy who speaks Latin and reads old books? I know you can’t think of anything either! I found he kind of annoyed me I mean he wasn’t entitled to Calla and he did help her, but I loved another guy more! That leads me to Ren what a complicated guy he is! I love my characters complex. Just when I wrote him off as a jerk he completely transforms into someone that I would be proud to call a friend. Seeing this transformation under the things he had to deal with as a child is completely and utterly remarkable!
Go get this book now! I mean it you will not regret it! It may be the best advice you ever take!
A heart wrenching tale of forbidden love and those choices you are willing to make for it.
I can’t wait for book two in the series Wolfsbane!!

Here is my interview:

How did you get into writing?

I have been fascinated with storytelling for as l
ong as I can remember. My early childhood was steeped in tales of supernatural horror and suspense and I was always striving to tell the most haunting, spine tingling tale. As I grew older, writing became a natural progression of my love for storytelling.

Where is your favorite place in the world?

Rome Italy is my favorite place to visit. Rome is filled with layers of history displayed in beautiful art and architecture. I could visit each year and still see something for the very first time. I also have an affinity for exploring catacombs and historic crypts, which Rome has in abundance. Rome also has some of the most fabulous espresso drinks on the planet. What's not to love? :)

Can you tell us a bit about your Poetry and Spirit Guide Series?

My first collection of dark poetry 'From the Shadows' released September 2009 to immediate praise. 'Shadows of Myth and Legend' a chilling collection of paranormal poetry inspired by folklore, myth and legend is filled with poems about vampires, werewolves, and other paranormal creatures of the night. 'Shadows of Myth and Legend' has been amazingly popular with fans of the paranormal genre. The Spirit Guide Series became available worldwide September 2010 with the release of 'She Smells the Dead' and has been described as " like Nancy Drew meets the Winchester Brother’s from Supernatural." 'She Smells the Dead' is a fast-paced introduction to the Spirit Guide Series filled with mystery, adventure, romance, and amazing friendships. 'Spirit Storm', the second book in the Spirit Guide Series, releases this month in ebook formats and January 2011 in paperback. 'Spirit Storm' begins where 'She Smells the Dead' leaves off, with Yuki's situation become more dire by the second, and promises to be a fun-filled, suspenseful, paranormal read. 'Legend of Witchtrot Road', the third book in the Spirit Guide Series, is due to release October 2011.

How did you pick Yuki's name?

I'm a HUGE anime and manga fan girl and have always love the name Yuki. Yuki means "snow" in Japanese, and I felt that Yuki would be drawn to a name that represented something clean and pure.

Did you ever have any traumatic High School Experiences?

Well...you know how Yuki is called a witch by her high school peers? Yeah, that happened to me. I was very "goth" in high school (black nail polish, long black skirts, doc martens, hair often dyed black, red, or purple) and acquired the witch nickname while wearing my evil eye pendant to school. Though the shouts of "witch" as I walked the halls was annoying, the experience later helped to inspire Yuki's character.

Did your childhood shape your writing?

Absolutely! I had a very eccentric childhood steeped in dark myth, legend, and folklore and filled with tales of mystery and horror. My favorite bed time stories as a young child were from Lord Halifax's Complete Ghost Book, Collected Works of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and the Complete Stories and Poems of Edgar Allan Poe.

Five Favorite Things:

Edgar Allan Poe, Corgis, Goth Couture, Patrick Wolf, Fog shrouded graveyards...

Any Future Projects?

I am currently working on 'Legend of Witchtrot Road' the third book in the Spirit Guide Series. We hope to have 'Legend of Witchtrot Road' ready for late 2011 release.

Any messages or words of advice you wish to convey to your readers?

Thank you all so very much for making the Spirit Guide Series a success!

Richelle Mead Signing!

So I had the most exciting opportunity to go and see Richelle Mead on Sunday December 12th! I was really excited for I had spent the previous part of my weekend at a Debate Tournament. Anyways I got there and they said I could only have three books signed BUMMER! But I got my three books signed and got to meet Richelle and listen to her read which was so much fun.

What also made this signing incredible was that I got to spend the signing with DJ @ DJ's Life in Fiction! I had a lovely time talking to him in person again! The time flew by and soon we were listening to Richelle read and answer questions. She is one of the nicest authors I have met in person! We talked about writing and NaNo. Then I had to leave for the weather was blizzard conditions! I love my parents for driving me across the state to see Richelle Mead! I will never forget it!

Review: I LOVED THIS BOOK!!! I didn’t really know what to expect when picking it up. All I knew was a lot of people were talking about it, and I had to see what it was all about! I have figured out my favorite genre when reading this book Epic Fantasy. Look out Paranormal Romance!!! Epic Fantasy can be written awfully or so brilliant that it is beyond words, and this is the beyond words kind! Cashore built a dream world and made it come alive in my mind! I am having a hard time putting into words how much I love this book.

The books pacing was just right, it was never slow. It kept me at the edge of my seat and I couldn’t put it down! I loved Katsa we got to watch her transform into a new person before our eyes, and I loved who she became. She learned it was okay to let others in and she was rewarded greatly be it. While she struggled with her Grace, it also defined who she was and who she wanted to be! Po was AMAZING!! Okay so he was such a nice character. He is the perfect man! He is going to be put on the long list of reasons of why I am never going to be able to fall in love with a real life guy! He helps Katsa find her own way and then lets her go to be who she knows she needs to be! Their friendship had me yelling at Po and throwing the book across the room at times. Those were the times the book sucked me in and then took me to places I never expected!!

I think everyone should go read this book. Buy several copies and give them out as gifts! I don’t know how anyone could not like this book. It was beyond awesome on so many levels. It had every aspect in a book that one looks for! If you want to discuss a book with me I will by default probably go to this book! Can I mention how great Po was again *SIGH* Po!! Well Go out now yes now! Even if you are in PJ’s and get this book! You will not be able to put it donw and you will want more!!

Vixen (Flappers #1) by: Jillian Larkin (Review)

Title: Vixen (The Flappers #1)

Author: Jillian Larkin

Publisher: Knopf Delacorte Dell
Number of Pages: 421

Date of Release: December 14, 2010

Synopsis From Back of Book:

Jazz…Booze…Boys…It’s a dangerous combination.

Every girl wants what she can’t have. Seventeen-year-old Gloria Carmody wants the flapper lifestyle-and the bobbed hair, cigarettes, and music filled nights that go with it. Now that she is engaged to Sebastian Grey, scion of one of Chicago’s most powerful families, Gloria’s party days are over before they’ve ever begun…or are they?

Clara Knowles, Gloria’s goody-two-shoes cousin, has arrived to make sure the high-society wedding comes off without a hitch- but Clara isn’t as lily-white as she appears. Seems she has some dirty little secrets of her own that she’ll do anything to keep hidden….

Lorraine Dyer, Gloria’s social-climbing best friend, is tired of living in Gloria’s shadow. When Lorraine’s envy spills over into desperate spite, no one is safe. And someone is going to be very sorry….

Review: I have not read a historical fiction novel in some time, which is quite sad now that I think about it. Flappers have not been done in the young adult genre before. Ms. Larkin does a beautiful job of telling an intricate story laced with intrigue and suspense! There is something in this book for everybody!

Gloria is a bit annoying miss perfect, but I doesn’t realize it in the beginning. Then she evolves and realizes all the dark secrets society holds and that she wants no part of. Gloria knows what she wants and isn’t sure how everything will work out, but goes for it all anyways. She wants to live with no regrets and to follow her dreams, even if it is disgraceful to her high- society rules. I truly enjoyed this character! Clara was my favorite character though. She knows who she is and who she wants to be. Clara has secrets that come out throughout the book, but until they do it is a truly delightful mystery trying to figure out what they are. Clara and Gloria are going after the things the other has but doesn’t want. The more minor characters also had a depth that made you want more and more page after page.

Vixen is told through Clara, Gloria and Lorraine’s perspectives. This is delightful for you get to learn how each character feels about the current situations and what makes them tick. You also didn’t get bored of just one story for each character had a very different story to tell. All these strong personalities wove together to create one great book! The writing is expertly done and Jillian Larkin makes it all look easy! You will have a hard time believing from the first page that this is Larkin’s debut novel.

I highly recommend this to reluctant readers, but especially those who are looking for a good read. Vixen is Gossip Girl meets The Godfather with a dash of sparkle and fringe. There is something here for everyone; guys with substance, daring girls, music, mystery, action and suspense! This is one of those books that you will want to recommend to that random person in the book store that looks confused at what to read. Go run, NO SPRINT out and buy this fantastic Debut!!

Flappers #2 Ingénue Coming September 2011!!!
