Title: The Iron Witch (The Iron Witch #1)
Author: Karen Mahoney
Publisher: Flux
Number of Pages: 290
Date of Release: February 8, 2011
Synopsis From Back of Book:
When she was seven, a horrific fey attack killed Donna Underwood’s father and drove her mother mad. Her own nearly fatal injuries were fixed by alchemy—the iron tattoos branding her hands and arms. Now seventeen, Donna feels like a freak, doomed by the magical heritage that destroyed her parents and any chance she had for a normal life. Only her relationship with her best friend, Navin, is keeping her sane.
But when vicious wood elves abduct Navin, Donna is forced to accept her role in the centuries-old war between human alchemists and these darkest outcasts of Faerie. Assisted by Xan, a gorgeous guy with faery blood running through his veins and secrets of his own, Donna races to save Navin—even if it means betraying everything her parents fought to the death to protect.

Review: First off The Iron Witch’s cover is just breathtaking! I am afraid the picture does not do it enough justice. On to the writing, I really loved Karen Mahoney’s style. She kept me guessing at every turn. I also loved the world she had created within another world. She addresses what it is like to be different and how it is okay. There is so many messages a reader can take from this book if he/she wants to.
The plot never got stuck or caught up. It kept at a steady pace all through the book. I liked how the magical elements fit seamlessly into a modern day world. I didn’t see a few things coming and that was nice. I also really liked how there was a strong female main character. We can use more of those in literature nowadays.
The characters were phenomenal. I learned quite a lot about all of them throughout the book. I was thrilled that no character was static. Even the minor characters had dynamic qualities. Donna was such a great character and I could relate to her immediately. Navin was the perfect guy friend that I wish I had. Then Xan was just plain delightful!
This book sucked me in and I am so anxious for book number two!! It is becoming a painful wait for I want that book so badly now! There are so many elements in this book that are done so fantastically. Definitely a book you do not want to miss!!
