Touch Of Frost by: Jennifer Estep (Guest Post)

Greetings and salutations! First of all, I want to thank Erika for having me on the blog today. Thanks so much, Erika!

So today, Erika asked me to do a post on some of the books that the characters in my Mythos Academy series might love. The books focus on Gwen Frost, a 17-year-old Gypsy girl who has the gift of psychometry, or the ability to know an object’s history just by touching it. After a serious freak-out with her magic, Gwen is shipped off to Mythos Academy, a school for the descendants of ancient warriors like Spartans, Valkyries, Amazons, and more.

Since the Mythos Academy series is told from Gwen’s point of view, I thought that I’d let her tell you about some of her favorite books. Take it away, Gwen:

Beauty by Robin McKinley: I love fairy tales, and Beauty and the Beast is one of my all-time favorites. This is a just really cool version of the story about a girl who realizes just how kind and gentle a beast can really be.

Beastly by Alex Flinn: This is another take on Beauty and the Beast, but the twist is that it’s told from the Beast’s point of view. He starts out as kind of a jerk, but by the end, the Beast has transformed into a really great guy on the inside – where it counts the most.

Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls: I don’t have any pets, but I love reading books about folks who do. This is one of my favorite stories, even though it has a bittersweet ending that always makes me cry.

Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH by Robert C. O’Brien: This is another cool book about a group of super-smart rats who help a mouse and her family.

The Ramona Quimby books by Beverly Cleary: When I was younger, I loved these books about smart, sassy Ramona and all the adventures that she had.

The Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling: What kid doesn’t love the Harry Potter books? And I totally love Hermoine because she’s a smart and sassy bookworm just like I am.

Comic books: I also love to read comic books and graphic novels. The stories are exciting, the art is wicked cool, and the good guys always win in the end, which is the best part. Some of my favorite superheroes are Wonder Woman and Batman, and I also like reading the Archie comics too.

So there you have it. Some books that my heroine Gwen likes.

What about you guys? What are some of your favorite books and characters?

Jennifer Estep writes the Mythos Academy young adult urban fantasy series for Kensington.
