Obsidian by: Jennifer L. Armentrout (Review)

Title: Obsidian
Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout
Publisher: Entangled Publishing
Number of Pages: 266
Date of Release: December 6th, 2011
Summary From Goodreads:

Starting over sucks.

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I’d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring…. until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something…unexpected happens.

The hot alien living next door marks me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon’s touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I’m getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.

If I don’t kill him first, that is.

Review: Well as many of you know I adore Jennifer L. Armentrout’s writing! I knew I needed to read this book as soon as I new it was coming out. Obsidian is way different from Jennifer’s Covenant series, but yet the same in the fact that they both are wonderfully written. Also on a side note, look at that hot piece of man on the cover!! I appreciate whoever found that model ;P

Katy is pretty awesome, and we have one huge thing in common, we both blog about books. Her obsession and devotion toward the written word, was captured perfectly, and the life of a blogger, was portrayed accurately. Okay there are even moments when she talks about the pain she fills in writing negative reviews. I could talk all day about how I love Katy, but I have to move on. Daemon is kind of a douche, and you know what every single person in the book, and those who have read it I know would agree with me. It is infuriating when we get a glimpse that he is a compassionate person and then he goes and does something stupid. The whole life saving though, pretty much makes up for most of his character flaws, and I know Katy thinks that too. Anyways I picture Daemon to look EXACTLY like that fine specimen of man on the cover. Have I mentioned that I think he is hot yet?

So the plot was fast paced, but slow in the key places that it needed to be to develop the characters and add some more world building. I really wish the novel was longer, because while it was the standard benchmark it seems in YA lately of 266 pages, I still needed more. I am dying here with need for more of Daemon and Kat. Also can we take a detour and mention Daemon’s sister, she is pretty amazing, and I wish I had a friend like her. The only thing you can compare this novel to is I Am Number Four, and Obsidian in my opinion did the whole Alien concept ten times better. So let’s give it a movie already!! Obsidian is one of the best books I have read in the YA sci/fi and Jennifer L. Armentrout has proven yet again she is a force to be reckoned with in the writing world.

  1. Great review. I really loved Katy's character too, but I think most book bloggers will too.
